Alex Bartholomees

I am a University of Texas at Austin graduate with a BS in Arts and Entertainment Technology, a certificate in Creative Writing, and a certificate in Project Management. I thrive in environments where I am free to explore unique techniques in design and storytelling, as well as collaborate with a team.

Illustration

I have been illustrating for both commissioning clients and personal projects for more than 7 years, selling both digital and physical copies of my work online and in art markets.
My illustration work has been featured in the independently published LHF zine in 2023, 2024, and 2025 under the name saltedgator, as well as the Ineffable Devotion zine and the Undecided zine. My collage work has been published as the cover of UT's literary journal, Hothouse.

POiNT: The Comic

My current long-term project is an Independent Study in the form of a multimedia story, but primarily illustrated comic. From the website design to the art, animation, game design, music, and writing were all completed by me. It explores themes of grief, semiotics, and how perception of reality alters stories. You can read it here.

Animation and Animatics

Below are character animations for an in-progress game portion of POiNT: The Comic. Assets and animation are all designed by me, and implemented into Construct 3.

Jumble VS. Everything is a short, musically-driven animatic. What started as a simple assignment for my storyboarding class to sync a few frames of movement to sound became a two-minute long project. I wanted to experiment with character design, color, and movement.

Writing

I have been writing for both commissioning clients and personal projects for more than 5 years while mantaining a consistent 5 star rating on Fiverr. I have experience in writing essays, fiction, scripts, zines, video game dialogue and storylines, and poetry. The genres I specialize in are absurdism, fantasy, and tragicomedy. Character-driven stories are my strength and passion.
My works have been published in Annus Horriblus, Musings of a Not-So-Lonely Feminist, papercuts ii: greens, the undecided, and small-press zine anthologies. A selection of my fictional works and poetry can be found below.

I also have a selection of text-based games that I have worked on. They can be found on my itch.io page, as well as below.

Game Design

I have collaborated with programmers and indie developers by providing written scripts, music, and drawn/animated assets to the games listed below.

Stitch By Stitch is a game created in AET 358, Games For Good. The goal of the class was to end the semester with a completed minigame with the focus of being controlled by a Captury motion system. It's primary function is for rehabilitating exercises towards stroke survivors in order to help them regain mobility in an entertaining context. My role was to provide music, concept art, and to design the game's visual aesthetics.

Aliens, Arcades, and Abductions is a Warioware-style game about the player character, an alien, gaining ownership of an arcade and being tasked to raise its popularity. This is accomplished by fixing arcade cabinets by winning minigames. I conceptualized the premise, designed the characters, wrote the dialogue and script, and worked with a programming team to create a comprehensive demo.

Reefwood Outlaws is an underwater platformer where you play as a mantis shrimp sheriff tasked with laying down the law of the seafloor. I worked with Subpar Software through an internship to help develop the designs for various items, as well as the creation of the game's logo.

Zines

I have written and sold more than 50 independently created collage, art, and poetry zines, both online and in art markets. Alongside working as the Lead Student Editor for Arts and Entertainment Technology's new student orientation zine, I am an active participant in the Austin zine scene.
You can download my collection of scanned 8-page zines, available for home printout.

Music

I have written two soundtracks and multiple EPs for projects such as POiNT and other personal endeavors. You can listen to them here.
